Top Tips for Keeping Cosy whilst Camping from Bundle Beds

Spring is the perfect season for camping trips, but staying warm under canvas can be challenging, especially for kids. We got in touch with our friends at Bundle Beds – the all-in-one travel bed for adults and kids, to get their top tips for keeping warm when camping. Here’s what they had to say…
We LOVE camping as a family and are pretty keen to get out in the tent whatever the weather, but, to be absolutely clear, we DON’T love being cold! Plus, sleep deprivation is never a key ingredient holiday in my book! To help you keep cosy on your next Spring camping trip, we've compiled some tips and camping kit recommendations that will ensure a comfortable night's sleep…
A Good Sleep Set-Up
Sleeping horrendously and emerging as Frosty the Snowman is something that we definitely want to avoid! Insulating from the ground up is really important. Ditch the double height airbeds which let the cold in from under you, and opt instead for a self-inflating mattress (luckily Bundle Beds come with one 😉). Put a few blankets under your sleep set-up – one of those insulated picnic blankets is brilliant – and then add a few layers on top.
The Night Time Outfit
When the weather is unpredictable, it’s always good to be armed layers for clothes. Pack thermal baselayers or long Pjs, sleep socks, and a warm hat to protect your extremities from the cold. Layer on a jumper or hoodie if you want; onesies are great for the kids to help them sleep well; but make sure that whatever you choose as your night-time attire is exclusively that. You don’t want to be wearing anything that is even the tiniest bit damp.
Getting Ready for Bed
Try not to go to bed cold as it’ll be difficult to warm-up. Have a good wiggle and jiggle to warm up – a set of star jumps always work for us! Whilst you’re doing this, put a hot water bottle into your bed – hand warmers are a useful solution, especially for kids, and avoid the hot water risk. When you get into bed, keep the hot water bottle or hand warmers round your core, rather than at your toes, as it’ll heat the blood travelling throughout your body and keep all your extremities warmer.
Settling down to sleep always helps little one to sleep better, so making a nice cosy hot chocolate (Cocoba's hot chocolate spoons and bombs are an excellent option for an indulgent and cosy treat that is easy to pack) and spending some time telling bedtime stories round a campfire is perfect. A pre-bed bathroom trip is essential as your body wastes a lot of energy keeping a full bladder warm!
In summary, by investing in a good sleep set up that’s cosy and warm (we’ll just remind you of Bundle Beds again here 😉), layering up with warm clothes, and enjoying a warm drink before bed, you can ensure a cosy and comfortable Spring camping trip for the whole family.
